Former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has dropped a bombshell on the political scene, declaring that Peter Obi is not a victim, but rather the architect of his own political downfall.
Speaking in an explosive interview with Symfoni TV, Okonkwo didn’t hold back. He made it clear that Obi’s current political struggles are not due to betrayal by others, but rather the result of his own poor decisions and lack of political wisdom.
“When he said somebody betrayed him, it is not true. Obi is the one betraying himself,” Okonkwo said boldly. He added, “Nobody is murdering Obi’s political career. Obi is committing political suicide.”
According to Okonkwo, any serious politician who knows what they are doing cannot be easily betrayed. He suggested that Obi lacks the strategy and team spirit needed to survive in Nigeria’s tough political environment.
In a shocking twist, Okonkwo openly declared, “If there’s anybody that was betrayed, I can say it clearly – Peter Obi betrayed me.” He accused Obi of not being a good team player, saying the former governor often ignores advice and fails to carry his team along when it matters most.
Okonkwo explained that Obi’s decision to join the Labour Party in 2022 changed everything. He warned that once a politician joins a coalition party, their political future is no longer in their control. “You must now submit your personal ambition to the interest of the coalition,” he stressed.
He further claimed that the Labour Party is currently too weak to produce a strong presidential campaign for 2027, and if Obi doesn’t build a serious coalition, he may have no political impact at all.
Okonkwo also accused Obi of creating confusion within the party. He said that while he was trying to promote party loyalty, Obi was publicly endorsing candidates from other political parties. As an example, he pointed to a case in Cross River State, where Obi allegedly supported a candidate from a different party instead of the Labour Party’s own flagbearer.
He dismissed the belief that Obi is now being hunted by the government or political enemies, saying Obi is simply mismanaging his own political journey. According to him, even the recent party primaries in Edo, Ondo, and Anambra were all conducted with Obi’s full approval, yet issues still arose.
In summary, Kenneth Okonkwo made it clear that Peter Obi is not being destroyed by anyone but himself, and that the former presidential candidate needs to take responsibility for the cracks in his political structure.
This bold statement has already stirred heavy reactions across social media and political circles, as many Nigerians now question the future of Peter Obi’s political movement.
